Redang Island Trip 2009 - Part 1

This is my 1st trip to our Malaysia's Paradise island. Pulau Redang. Bought this trip from Ping Anchorage Sdn. Bhd. http://www.pinganchorage.com.my/ . A well trusted travel agency.  Year End promotion rates are @ RM666/person for 4D3N. Plus weekend surcharge RM80/person. Inclusive of full board meals and snorkeling trips.

Booked Airasia during zero fare, RM70 for return tickets per person. Took a night flight to Kuala Terengganu and stay over night @ MingStar Hotel.

Book this hotel from their website http://www.mingstarhotel.com/ . RM108/night for standard room. Reach hotel and check in at around 10:30pm. Nice service from the receptionist. The hotel and room are very clean. Spotless bedsheet and clean toilet. Unfortunately, when we sit on the bed, OMG!! Its so damm hard. No bounciness at all.

After take a short rest, decided to go out to look for some beers. There are a 7/11 opposite the hotel and also a few cafes next to it. No sign of selling beer in these outlet. Its actually quite a challenge to find beers after 11pm in KT due to the state is ruled by PAS. Then after some walking around the hotel, saw a sign board " Ocean Seafood Restaurant " . Its located on the left if you walk out from the hotel. Walk thru a small alley and you can see the restaurant. Its owned by Chinese, so Bingo.. i found my beer. RM7/can. Not cheap though but its still cheaper compare to buy from hotel at Redang. Sapu 15 cans.

Back to the hotel, drink a can of beer and try to sleep. The stupid bed really too uncomfortable. Plus our room are facing the road. Can hear traffic noise very clearly. Worst, there are hundred of Mat Rempit racing around in the middle of the night. i even wake up to watch them. My wife was snoring the whole night and i barely sleep. sigh..... dont think will stay in this hotel again next time.

Woke up 6am. Pack and went for breaky in the hotel. very simple food. Our driver reach around 7am and took us to Merang Jetty. This is where we depart to LAGUNA RESORT.  Quite surprise with the crowd. I thought it wont be many guests during this time of the year but im wrong. Maybe its because of Deepavali and long weekends. But of coz its not as many as peak time during May to August.

The ferry ride took us around 1 hour to reach Redang Island.

Once we got out from the ferry, we were ask to wait at the waiting hall. The PR of the hotel gave us a 15mins briefing, telling us what you can do and what you cannot do in this island. After the briefing, a truck-pull tram will take us to the hotel lobby for check in.

Once we reach the lobby, welcome drink is served. Then register at the counter and got our key in about 15mins time. If during peak times, check in will take you around 2 hours.

We got a Garden View room. No.548. Upstairs room. Its very near to the Lobby. and right next to the KTV. Very clean and big room with wooden flooring. And ofcoz, a very comfortable bed.

White Water Rafting @ Sungai Kampar

We felt in love in this sports since our 1st white water rafting at Telaga Waja River, Bali. So, when we saw it in MATTA Fair, we know we wants to go again. Initially we only need 4 person to on the trip, but after sending some emails and sms to friends and colleagues, we ended up a group of 22..... and out of 22 there are 16 chicks!!!! hahahaha...... too bad im married!!! and too bad to all my bros who scared of water!!!!

Self-drivc to Gopeng at 6am. Reach the resort at 8:30am. Have our breaky, relax a bit and get ready for the action!!!

Starting point.

BodyRafting. We have to do this before we start our rafting. just to get use to the water condition and learn what is the right position and what to do if we fall in to the river.

After i perform the bodyrafting, found that my so call "waterproof bag" is not water proof. damm... my camera and cigarettes are all masuk air!!.... so camera cannot work anymore.... stupid!!! yes.... calling myself...... :(

At this time of the year is dry season, so very little rain. It means river water not very strong and its quite shallow. Its only at class 2. Still better than the Bali rafting. A few drops at the beginning is quite scary even for me. but the river condition is still very safe.

No one from my raft falls into water. In our group only 2 or 3 person fall. but all escape with no injuries.. One boat got stuck on a big rock just in-front of a rapids. The boat is filled with water and its too heavy to move. So all our guides have to go to rescue them. fortunately all got rescue and those guides manage to save the boat... haha.... fun and a bit scary to watch. Some boat always got stuck on shallow water.

My cute little chalet. 2 bed, 1 fan and no aircon. farking cold at night. and in this forest, no mosquito at night. weather too cold. There are other bigger chalets which can stay up to 30 persons. if you want to sleep 2 person, this is the only chalet.

The rafting last for almost 3 hours. back to the resort by a big lorry. had lunch, relax, play ping pong and so on.....

After lunch, head to a waterfall nearby. its call Waterfall massage. the guides will tie a rope under the falls, then all of us have to climb up and hold the rope. lay down to the falls and let the water massage our shoulder. very very nice.... and the water is so cold and fresh. you can even taste some sweetness from the water.

After dinner, prepare to go for our jungle night walk. only 6 of us going. others dont dare to go. scared of leeches. haha.... overall a very special experience. The best is there is one part of the trek that we cannot switch on our torch light!!... if you want to know the reasons, go try yourself.... all wear long pants and 3 of them kena leeches, im the only one wearing shorts but not leeach... haha..... because my torch light are use to see my legs more than see the way... haha!!!! kill a few leeches before they even climb up to my leg.......

After shower, play mahjong, drink beer, drink liquor, play magic, play ropes, play ping pong, etc...... drunk while playing ping pong... damm shiok... slept at 5am!!! 24 hours of fun!!

A lot of them say the rafting is not scary enough... wah so lansi... haha... so we planning to go again during end of the year, raining season. according to the guide, it will be around class 3-4. See that time still got people say not scary or not!!! hell yeah.........
